JB from Wine House: The Perfect Intro to Amarones or "Raisin Wine"

"This wine is made in the style of Amarone: the grapes (60% Merlot and 40% Corvina) are dried before fermentation so the wine is in essence made out of raisins using a process that would generally jack the price up to $100 per bottle. The grapes are placed on mats and left to dry out for several months. When pressed, the grapes yield less liquid but create a highly concentrated juice from the desiccated skins.  The result is a rich earthy flavor with notes of blackberry fruit and a long satisfying finish.
